History of Gattonside

Main Street, Gattonside

Name - The origin of the name is in doubt. It is recorded as Galtuneside in 1124, but the origin of the first part is not known. Being on a south-facing slope, it was the place where the monks had their orchards.

Graveyard Record - There is no graveyard in Gattonside. Melrose graveyards were and are used.
